SANDWICH INDUSTRY
On pre-prepared sandwich packs, where ingredients have to be listed on the label, the Association actively encourages its members to:
In sandwich bars, foodservice outlets and other catering outlets where sandwiches are made on the premises but are pre-packed, operators are encouraged to provide a clear description of the product either on a label or shelf talker and to highlight if products contain allergens or other ingredients which may cause harm to certain people.
It is also good practice for these outlets – and those where products are made to order – to have a printed menu detailing ingredients used in sandwiches (and other foods) on sale. This should be clearly displayed on the premises for the benefit of those customers who may require such information, such as those with allergies or concerned about health. Staff should also be sufficiently briefed to be able to respond to consumer requests for information about ingredients and to be aware of allergen risks and issues such as salt and fat.
